Turmeric
Curcuma longa

Turmeric essential oil, steam-distilled from Curcuma longa rhizomes, is rich in sesquiterpene ketones — principally ar-turmerone (30-60%), with alpha- and beta-turmerone and zingiberene as supporting constituents. These turmerones are chemically distinct from the non-volatile curcuminoids but independently exhibit anti-inflammatory activity, and ar-turmerone has shown neuroprotective effects by attenuating LPS-induced neuroinflammation via TLR4 signalling.[1] In vivo studies further confirm antioxidant and antinociceptive properties of the whole essential oil.[2]
